Thibodaux Police Department to Give Away Gun Locks

     The Thibodaux Police Department received 100 gun safety locks for distribution to citizens of Thibodaux.  These locks became available to the Police Department through a City partnership with “Project ChildSafe”, a national safety program. 

     These gunlocks along with safety kits will be distributed at the Thibodaux Police Station at 1309 Canal Boulevard on Saturday, April 17, 2004 beginning at 9:30 A.M. until the supplied 100 locks have been distributed.  Residents will be limited to three locks per household.  A brief course on gunlock installation and gun safety is required of all citizens receiving these gunlocks.

Let's Get Ready for Ball!  The Parks Department is currently renovating the front fields at Peltier Park in preparation for the upcoming Baseball season! The City of Thibodaux is proud to announce that the construction for the ADA playground equipment at MLK park has just begun!  The playground equipment will mimic that of Peltier Parks ADA playground equipment.

Congrats to Captain Scott Toups

Mayor Charles Caillouet along with Thibodaux Police Chief Howard P. Robertson, wishes to make the following announcement: 

Captain Scott Toups graduated March 19, 2004 from the FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, Virginia.  The 216th Session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, 24 international countries, two military organizations, and three federal civilian organizations. 

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program, held at the FBI Academy, offers eleven weeks of advanced investigative, management, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies.  On average, these officers have 19 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions. 

Training for the program is provided by FBI Academy instructional staff, Special Agents, and other staff members holding advanced degrees, many of whom are recognized internationally in their fields of expertise. 

Captain Scott Toups of the Thibodaux Police Department was a classman at this 216th Session of the National Academy.  Captain Toups successfully completed the eleven-week program, which included academics as well as physical fitness, with a 4.0 grade point average.  Captain Toups was also selected to teach several leadership courses while attending the Academy. 

Chief Robertson promoted Captain Toups to the Commander of the Operations Division, and the second in command of the Thibodaux Police Department. 

Captain Toups, following his return from the National Academy stated:  “I would like to thank the City of Thibodaux and the Thibodaux Police Department for affording me the opportunity to attend the FBI National Academy.  I am looking forward to utilizing the training and knowledge gained from the Academy and applying it in my assigned duties as Operations Commander.  I will thrive to have more training and education for the Thibodaux Police Department through networking and contacts established while attending the FBI National Academy.”

 

The Thibodaux Civic Center will host the play "The Little Mermaid" on Thursday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m.  Please call 446-7260 for ticket information.

The Thibodaux Main Street Program, in conjunction with Nicholls Jubilee and the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce held an Art's Alive show in the downtown area on Thursday night.  The Reggae band hit the evening off with Bob Marley songs, and the art exhibits and food were a big success!  Anyone interested in participating in any Art's Alive function, please contact Kristin Batulis at 985-448-5852.
