THIBODAUX POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE - Two Arrested for Underage Drinking During the night of January 16, 2003 two people were arrested for underage drinking in the downtown area of Thibodaux. Thibodaux Police Department regularly assigns officers to work at various locations throughout the city looking for underage drinkers. Chief Craig Melancon stated that the city has seen a noticeable drop in the number of arrests involving underage drinkers since the inception of this program two years ago and last nights arrests show that decline. Chief Melancon stated that at the beginning of this effort, it was not uncommon to make nine or even fifteen arrests during a four-hour period. Chief Melancon would also like to remind everyone about the dangers of drinking and driving during the upcoming Mardi Gras season. This time of the year is even more perilous due to the amount of children on the parade routes; therefore, officers on patrol and working at the various street intersections will be looking for these violators. Also, there will be several officers out at various times who will be looking for drunk drivers. The two under aged drinkers arrested are Corey C. Clement, age 20, of 117 Price Street in Montegut, LA who was issued a misdemeanor summons for Possession of an Alcoholic Beverage Under the Age of 21. Scotty M. Thibodaux, age 17, of 4676 Shrimpers Row in Houma, LA who was issued a misdemeanor summons for Possession of Alcohol Under Age 21 and Misrepresentation of Age to Gain Entry into a Bar. |
