An Interview with Alfred Smith…
Many people rush through City Hall or the Police Department for one reason or another, but fail to recognize a wonderful face; a face in which you can always find an ear-to-ear smile on it. Alfred Smith, also known as ‘Al’, works at City Hall and the Thibodaux Police Department as a custodian. He has been with the City for 3 years in November. When asked about what he enjoys most about his job, he said, “It’s the freedom, working alone, getting more done, and the flexible hours.” If he needs time to bring his grandfather somewhere, he can come in early or on weekends. “I think this job was made for me,” said Al with a big ‘ole smile. “I smile because it’s a blessing just to see the day.” He also mentioned that he ‘always has a song in his heart.’
Al, who has lived in Thibodaux all his life, is married with 3 children (two girls – one of which is deceased, and a boy) and is the proud grandfather of two granddaughters.
Spending time with his wife and family is something he cherishes, which is why he calls himself a ‘family man.’ He also revealed a secret that although he’s very friendly with everyone, most people don’t realize that he’s actually very shy around people and crowds. To Al: A big ‘THANK YOU’ from everyone!
