Police Drug Raid a Success

The Thibodaux Police Department executed a drug raid on early morning hours of Wednesday, August 21, 2002 called Operation “Last Ride.”  The Thibodaux Police Department in conjunction with the Department of Probation and Parole successfully arrested the majority of 35 suspects wanted for illegal sale and/or possession of illegal substance.  The search for those suspects still wanted by police continues.  The operation began in January 2002 when several residents complained that out-of-town taxis were contributing to the drug traffic in Thibodaux.  Chief Craig Melancon stated that since the newly created Narcotic Division, which was established in 2000, there have been four major drug round-ups where multiple suspects have been picked up.  Over the last 24 – 30 months an estimated $200,000 has been seized in drugs, weapons, and other paraphernalia.  Chief Melancon congratulates the Thibodaux Police Department for having a successful roundup with no injuries to anyone.  The Police department continues to fight war on drugs, which according to Chief Melancon has been successful in reducing the overall crime rate within the City of Thibodaux, making Thibodaux a safe community.
