Black History Month

Colin L. Powell

General Powell has been the recipient of numerous U.S. military decorations, including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart. His civilian awards include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Congressional Gold Medal, and an honorary knighthood (Knight Commander of the Bath) from the Queen of England. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1993.

General Powell was selected by President George W. Bush as his Secretary of State in January 2001. Powell is the first African-American to hold this high office in the United States Government.         

 

Ø     The City ofThibodaux would like to welcome Byron “Buddy” Ledet to City Hall. Buddy will be the Human Resources Director.  Buddy is a recent graduate of Nicholls State University andalso a local resident.  MayorCharles Caillouet stated, “I have no doubt that Buddy will do a fine job. We are all very excited to have him on our team.” Welcome Aboard Buddy!!!

 

Ø     Parks &Recreation Director Rabbit Landry was a guest speaker at the Kiwanis Clubluncheon meeting on Wednesday, February 13,2002.  Rabbit announced to Kiwanis members about the upcomingP.A.R.D summer programs.  Additionalsummer camps/workshops were also discussed.

 

 

Ø     The 2002P.A.R.D. Summer Programs are gearing up and it’s almost time to register!Thibodaux Parks & Recreation Department has summer programs for children ofall ages. But you need to act fast! Mark your calendars cause here’s thescoop:

 

2002P.A.R.D. Baseball Leagues:

o    boys &girls ages 4 to 18

o    registrationand fee collection begins March 16 and LAST DAY TO REGISTER is April 20.(in person, not by mail.)

o    birthcertificates required for 1st time registrants

 

2002Swimming Lessons

o    ages 4 andup

o    registrationand fee collection will be held Jun 3 – 7

o    1stsession: June 10 – 28

o    2ndsession: July 8 – 26

 

 

2002Arts & Crafts Classes

o    ages 5 to 12

o    registrationand fee collection will be May 1 – 31; 8 am to noon & 1 pm to 3 pm (Mon.– Fri.)

o    1stsession: June 3 – 20

o    2ndsession: July 8 – 25
