This past Monday at approximately 3:00o’clock in the afternoon, the Thibodaux Police Departments Narcotics Divisionwas out patrolling the streets of Thibodaux. As they neared the area of Arms Street, they observed a 1999 white,Chrysler Cirrus at the intersection of Arms Street and Parish Road. When NarcoticDetectives observed the driver of the white Cirrus failed to use his turningindicator as he turned right onto Parish Road, they initiated a trafficstop. When contact was made with the driver, Cody Brian Davenport(19y/o, w/m of 149 Peanut Lane in Thibodaux) Narcotics Detectives immediately noticed whatappeared to be the odor of marijuana emitting from Davenport’s body/clothing.
With the facts at hand, NarcoticsDetective Eddie Rodrigue III and his narcotics detection K-9 “Cee”conducted a search of Davenport’s vehicle. As “Cee” walkedaround the exterior of the vehicle, he gave an aggressive alert to driver sidefront and rear passenger doors. When “Cee” was placed inside the vehicle,he again gave an aggressive alert which was narrowed down to the frontpassenger seat. When Detective Rodrigue III checked the area of “Cee’s”alert, he located, hidden under the seat, a gallon size zip lock bag ofmarijuana and an electronic scale. When Detectives placed Davenport under arrest he was also found to be inpossession of $420.00 of UScurrency.
The marijuana which weighed442 grams was estimated as having a street value of $2210.00. Themarijuana along with the electronic scale and currency were all seized from Davenport and placed into evidence.
Davenport was transported to the ThibodauxPolice Department where he was booked on charges of “Possession with the IntentTO Distribute Marijuana” and “Failureto Give Turn Signals”. Davenport was later transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.
