Busy Weekend for the Thibodaux Police

Over the weekend, the Thibodaux Police Department responded to several complaints which ended in arrests.

One of the first arrest made was, Corey Benoit (21 y/o, W/M of 1300 Louise Street, Thibodaux). Early Saturday morning, October 29, 2005, the Thibodaux Police responded to a 911 call in the 600 block of East 1st Street in Thibodaux. There police made contact with two witnesses, one being Benoitís sister. Both witnesses said they witnessed Corey Benoit and the female engage in a physical encounter followed by Benoit removing the female victim at knifepoint from her residence into her vehicle. Police later located the vehicle at the intersection of Canal Boulevard at LA Hwy 1 stopped for a red light. After police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, Benoit was taken into custody. Benoit was transported to the Thibodaux Police Department where he was booked and charged with (1ct) Aggravated Kidnapping. With no bond, Benoit was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he remains.

A short time later, Thibodaux Police responded to another complaint regarding an Aggravated Kidnapping in the 600 block of East 7th Street in Thibodaux. There, police made contact with a female victim. The victim told police that she had exited her home and went for a walk. While out walking, she was approached by a male in a vehicle. When she refused to speak to the male, the victim said the suspect exited his vehicle and at knifepoint ordered her into his vehicle. After the suspect drove the victim to an unknown location, he physically removed her from his vehicle onto the ground where the suspect began to physically attack her. When a vehicle slowly passed by their location, it appeared the suspect became frighten and entered his vehicle and drove away leaving the victim unharmed.

Then, during the early morning hours of Sunday, the Thibodaux Police responded to an injury accident involving a pedestrian on LA Hwy 1 at St. Phillip Street in Thibodaux. There, police located a female lying in the westbound lane bleeding from her head. After tending to the victims injury she was later transported to a local hospital for treatment. Parked in the westbound lane was a 1999 Dodge Ram truck. The driver was identified as Robert Snavely (75 y/o W/M of 317 Maple Street in Labadieville). Snavely admitted to police that he had consumed alcohol beverages. Snavely was placed under arrest and transported to the Thibodaux Police Department where he was booked and charged with (1ct) DWI and (1ct) Vehicular Negligent Injury. Snavely was later transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center to await bond.
