Operation Downtown

Again this past Thursday night, July28, 2005, the Thibodaux Police Department initiated a pro-active operation targeting under-age drinking in the downtown area of Thibodaux. The Thibodaux Officers involved were both, uniformed and plain clothes officers.

During the four hour operation, the Thibodaux Officers issued 19 Misdemeanor Summons for “Under Aged Drinking”, (2) Misdemeanor Summons for “Open Container”.

Chief Melancon stated, “The Thibodaux Police Department will continue its aggressive stance in enforcing the laws surrounding underage drinking. Such operations will continue to be implemented in an effort to maintain a persistent focus on such an important issue”.

{“Under-Age Drinking” It is unlawful for any persons under twenty-one years of age to purchase or have public possession of any alcoholic beverage. Anyone who violates this law shall be fined not more than one-hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both.}

{“Open Container” It is unlawful for any persons to be in possession of open containers containing alcoholic beverages and liquor in public while standing, walking, sitting, or riding on the public streets or sidewalks of the City of Thibodaux. (Exemption: Special events possessing granted permits by the city.)
