This operation was due to the increased number ofunder-aged drinking reported at establishments in Thibodaux.  This drinking is usually the result of “fake” or borrowedidentifications, older people making purchases for under-aged friends, etc.

Of these fifty-five summonses, 38 were issued forunder-aged drinking, or possession of alcoholic beverage by person undertwenty-one years of age.  Seventeensummonses were issued for violation of the open container law.

There were also two arrests made for purchase of alcohol onbehalf of a person under twenty-one and one arrest for possession of LSD andKlonipin.

The subjects issued the summonses for under aged drinkingor possession must register with the police department, pay a fifty-dollarregistration fee and attend a class concerning their violation and dangers ofalcohol consumption.  These classesare usually held once a month on a Saturday. If on a second offense, a one hundred dollar registration fee iscollected and another class attendance is needed.  Upon the receipt of a third or additional summonses, theperson must appear in City Court.
