Mississippi Man Arrested for Simple Robbery

August 11, 2004


The Thibodaux Police Department announces the arrest ofWalter Lucas Jr., DOB 11/14/62, of Natchez, Miss.  Lucas was arrested on a warrant issued through Thibodaux CityCourt for Simple Robbery. 

Thibodaux Police Detectives working on leads, informationand evidence from a robbery that occurred at the Raeco Superette on Canal Blvd.on August 4, 2004 learned of a vehicle matching the description of that used bythe robber at the store.  Thesuspect vehicle was located in Assumption Parish at a residence of Lucasírelative.  It was learned thatLucas, fitting the description of the robber, and positive identificationthrough a photograph developed from in store video at Raeco Superette gavedetectives enough probable cause to secure a warrant for the arrest of Lucas. It was also learned that Lucas did use the suspect vehicle on August 4th

Detectives did other follow-up work and learned that Lucaswas leaving the state for his home in Mississippi.  Through NCIC search, a possible address for Lucas was foundand showed that of a residence in Natchez, Mississippi.  Copies of this warrant for the arrest of Lucas andinformation of the robbery in Thibodaux were forwarded to authorities inNatchez. 

At approximately 9 A.M. this date, August 11th,Natchez Police Department contacted Thibodaux Police and advised that Lucas hadbeen arrested at the address given in Natchez. Lucas was booked as a fugitive from another agency and signed anextradition waiver allowing Thibodaux Police to transport him back to Louisiana. 

Lucas was brought back to Thibodaux Police Department wherehe was booked on one count of Simple robbery. Lucas was then transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. Bond for Lucas was set on the arrest warrant at $50,000.00.
