Washington arrested for Unauthorized Entry

The Thibodaux Police Department announces the arrest ofJerome Washington, 24 year old male of  1274St. Charles Street, lot U, which is a residence address of a trailer park. Washington was arrested for Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwellingat a residence also located in the trailer park at 1274 St. Charles Street.

A home owner and resident of the trailer park was at hisresidence doing yard work when he noticed that a window on the north side of histrailer home was broken and the window screen been torn or cut. The homeowner then entered the trailer through a door on the west side ofthe trailer that he found unlocked.  Heobserved several articles of clothing, not belonging to him, on the floor of thetrailer.  The homeowner then secured the trailer and left. The homeowner observed Jerome Washington in the area of the trailer parkat this time.  The homeowner knew ofWashington being a suspect in the unauthorized entry of other homes in the areabut did not alert police at this time.

The homeowner returned to the trailer at approximately 8P.M.  At approximately 11:30 P.M.,the homeowner heard what sounded like someone attempting to open the now lockeddoor on the west side of the trailer.  Hethen heard a noise coming from outsides the room of the broken window. The homeowner armed himself with a handgun at this point and entered theroom of the broken window where he confronted Jerome Washington. He held Washington at gunpoint and called 911 to report the intruder.

Police officers from the patrol and narcotics divisionarrived and placed Washington under arrest. Washington was transported to the Thibodaux Police Station where he wasbooked for the Unauthorized entry charge.  Washington,upon being questioned of why he entered the residence, advised he was sleepingthere due to his mother putting him out of her residence and he had no whereelse to go.

Washington was transported to the Lafourche ParishDetention Center and is being held on five thousand dollar bond.
