 Department wide inspection held by Thibodaux Police Department

TheThibodaux Police Department held a Department wide Inspection on the afternoonof September 3, 2003 at the Thibodaux Civic Center.  The inspection washeld in the main arena.  Civic Center Director Curtis Hue and his staff setup the arena for the event.  The Lafourche Sheriffs Office and a LafourcheParish 911 operator, handled calls for service in the City during the Inspectionceremonies.

Presentation of the Colors was followed by a moment ofsilence for our fallen friends and brothers, Kurt “Woody” Harrelson andChaney Champagne of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, and then an openingprayer led by Reverend Jerry James.

ChiefHoward P. Robertson and Mayor Charles Caillouet conducted the inspection of allPolice Department personnel.  Thisincluded the Patrol, Narcotics and Detective Divisions, as well as Headquarterspersonnel.

EachLieutenant representing one of these sections of the Department gave briefstatements of their commitment to the City of Thibodaux, the Police Departmentand its personnel.  The threeCaptains of the Department, Keith Chiasson, Jerry Don Wyeth, and Scott Toupsalso gave statements of commitment.  Someof these commitments included Protection of Life and Property of citizens,providing high quality public service and to treat all people with respect andsensitivity.

ChiefHoward P. Robertson introduced members of the Mayor’s staff and DepartmentHeads and explained their importance to the smooth operation of the PoliceDepartment.  Chief Robertson alsogave his commitment to his “new” City and the Police Department. This commitment is to “strive for excellence” no matter what the jobassignment.  Chief Robertsonreaffirmed the Departments Oath, “To Serve and Protect”. The Chief expressed his observation of the pride exhibited by eachOfficer at this inspection and gave ideas on how to exhibit this pride everyday, stating that each Department member is an ambassador for the City ofThibodaux.

MayorCaillouet gave a statement reaffirming his goals for the City of Thibodaux. The Mayor stated that the City is moving forward into the 21stCentury and with this he expressed his desire for Thibodaux to be recognized asa “best place to live” by providing a safe environment and being a showplacefor residents and visitors.  Hewould like Thibodaux to become the most desirable city in the country for peopleto live.

DepartmentMembers re-took their “Oath of Office” which was administered by MayorCaillouet.  The Thibodaux PoliceDepartment’s Oath of Office is the swearing by an Officer to obey and upholdthe constitution and laws of the Nation and State and all laws and ordinances ofthe Parish and City to the best of their ability and understanding.

TheInspection ceremony ended with a closing prayer by Reverend James followed by ameal prepared and served by Bubba’s II Restaurant of Thibodaux.
