This Holiday Weekend, Impaired Drivers Beware

Thibodaux Police Chief Howard Robertson sends thefollowing message for the upcoming July 4th Weekend, 2003.

ThisHoliday Weekend, Impaired Drivers Beware:
We will find you and Lock You Up

As a community we all support law enforcement efforts toprotect us from theft, burglary, assault, and terrorism. Yet, many otherwise law-abiding citizens continue to view impaireddriving merely as a harmless traffic offense. Don’t be fooled.  Impaired driving is one of the most often committed crimes, randomly killing someone every 30 minutes. That means you, your family or friends are just as likely to be innocentvictims.

Thechances are great that you or someone you know will be affected. Over the July 4th holiday weekend, the Louisiana State Policeand Department of Transportation is expecting an increase in the number ofimpaired driving fatalities.

Aspart of the “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” National Crackdown, theThibodaux Police Department will be working with the Louisiana State Police andthe Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office to protect everyone from impaired driversduring this busy time of the year.  FromJune 27 to July 13, 2003, local and state officials will be out in full forceconducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout the City ofThibodaux and Lafourche Parish to arrest and prosecute these criminals to thefullest extent of the law.

There will be no warnings. Our message is simple
You Drink and Drive. You Lose.

 TheThibodaux Police Department reminds everyone:

  • Don’t risk it.  If you plan to drive, don’t drink
  • Choose a sober designated driver before going out
  • Take a taxi or ask a friend to drive you home
  • Spend the night where the activity is being held
  • Report impaired drivers to law enforcement
