On March 15, 2003 at approximately 12:20 PM the Thibodaux Police Department was notified by a citizen that her vehicle had just been stolen and that she was following it.

Officers were then able to locate the vehicle that was being driven by a black male.  Also inside the vehicle was a female passenger.  Officer William Mogenson then initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit the ensued.

After traveling through several city streets at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour, the vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Bradford and General Nicholls Streets where the driver and passenger then leapt from the vehicle.  A foot pursuit then began.  A bystander did tell Officer Mogenson that the black male did have a weapon.  Ultimately, it was learned that the two people fleeing had gone into an apartment complex.

The Patrol Division then set a perimeter.  The Thibodaux Police Departmentís S.E.R.T. (Special Enforcement Response Team) Team was activated as a precaution due to the report of a weapon being carried.  It was also unclear if the female passenger was with the driver against her will.   Along with the S.E.R.T. Team, the Hostage Negotiation team consisting of Lt. Michael Martin and Cpl. Randy Mayet was deployed.

At 3:30 PM the hostage negotiations team was able to talk the black male out of the home and he was quickly taken into custody without incident, as was the female passenger.

The black male was identified as Kentrell Young Age 18 of Thibodaux.  Mr. Young was later booked with aggravated Flight from an officer, resisting an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and a bench warrant for direct contempt.  Mr. Young was later transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center with a bond set in the amount of $30,000.00.

The passenger of the vehicle, identified as Ingrid Arcement of Thibodaux, was later released after determining her lack of involvement.  It should also be noted that Ms. Arcement was not a hostage at any time.

Through the course of the investigation, it was later determined that the vehicle was not stolen.
