On February 4, 2003 the City Council of Thibodaux voted unanimously to adopt a new parking ordinance within the City of Thibodaux.  This new ordinance will take affect Saturday March 10, 2003.

Ordinance Number 2139 Section 20-13 refers to Method of Parking, no parking area, designation of streets on certain roadways within the City Limits of Thibodaux between the hours of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Mondays through Fridays.  The roadways are as follows and times parking is not allowed is as follows:

  • (aa) No parking on Audubon Ave. from LA Hwy. 1 to Afton Drive.

  • (mm) No Parking on Ormonde Drive from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday-Friday.

  • (qq) No parking on Menard Street from Audubon Ave. to St. Joseph Street from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday-Friday.

  • (rr) No parking on Dunboyne Place from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday-Friday.

  • (ss) No parking on Cherokee Ave. from Peltier Park Drive to LA Hwy. 1 from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday-Friday.

  • (tt) No parking on Bayou Lane from Menard Street to Ormonde Drive from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday-Friday.

The public is asked to help the Thibodaux Police Department in this matter by observing and following this new ordinance.  This new ordinance was set forth due to the dangerous situation the parked cars cause to vehicular traffic exiting the side streets, citizens exiting their vehicles that are parked along these routes, and too pedestrians walking.

The parked cars along these roadways cause a visual obstruction that blocks the view of drivers.  In this case, Vehicular traffic exiting the side streets cannot sufficiently see any other moving vehicles on the roadway causing them to, essentially, take a chance when coming from a side street and running the risk of pulling in front of the oncoming traffic.

Though the new ordinance takes affect on March 10, 2003, the Thibodaux Police Department will issue a warning of violation for a two-week period to help citizens become adjusted to this new effort.  And though warnings will be issued, the public is asked to start avoiding this area and find a new and safer area to park their vehicles.  People found parking on these streets will be issued citations beginning March 24, 2003.
