During the Early morning hours of February 27, 2003 Officer Jeff Chamberlain of the Thibodaux Police Department was stationary near the intersection of Audubon Drive and South Acadia Road when he saw a vehicle turn from South Acadia Road onto Erwin Drive. At this time the vehicle turned its headlights off.
Officer Chamberlain then approached the vehicle that then turned around and left the area at a high rate of speed and began to drive recklessly. Officer Chamberlain then attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to stop. The vehicle did ultimately stop on the shoulder of Percy Brown Road where contact was made with the driver who was identified as Damein P. Parker Age 23 of Thibodaux. Upon exiting the vehicle, Officer Chamberlain saw Mr. Parker brushing suspected marijuana from his pants.
Officer Chamberlain then advised Mr. Parker that he was under arrest. Mr. Parker then, allegedly, began to resist Officer Chamberlain striking him several times. Mr. Parker then was able to return to his vehicle, throw a small bag containing suspected marijuana from the vehicle, and then leave the area in his vehicle.
A pursuit then ensued for a short distance before coming to a stop again on Percy Brown Road where Mr. Parker exited his car and began to flee from Officer Chamberlain on Foot.
Mr. Parker did stop where Officer Chamberlain again informed him that he was under arrest. Mr. Parker then, again, began to resist Officer Chamberlain’s arrest.
At this time, other members of the Thibodaux Police Department arrived and Mr. Parker was taken into custody.
Mr. Parker was then brought to the Thibodaux Police Department where he was booked with Stop sign violation, Flight from an officer, General speed law, Resisting an officer violently, Battery of a police officer, and Possession of marijuana. Mr. Parker was then transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center to await bond.
