NIGHT SHIFT NABS TWO FOR DWI

During the night of January 14, 2003 officers of the Thibodaux Police Department were able to take into custody two persons for Driving While Intoxicated.

During the early evening hours of January 14, 2003, an officer of the Thibodaux Police Department was traveling South on St. Patrick Hwy. when he observed a vehicle driving directly in front of him go from its lane of travel partially onto the shoulder, then quickly back onto the roadway.  This vehicle was also seen crossing the centerline.

The officer then stopped the vehicle and met with the driver, identified as Julius P. Dempster of 104 Manchester Manor Age 37, who had an odor of alcohol about him.  The officer also saw that Mr. Dempster was having trouble standing.  The driver then submitted to a series of standardized sobriety tests which he failed.  Mr. Demster was then brought to the Thibodaux Police Department.

Mr. Dempster was then booked for Improper Lane Use, Driving Under Suspension (for a prior DWI), and 3rd. Offense DWI.  Total bond was set in the amount of $2150.00.  Mr. Dempster was then transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.

Later during the night, another officer was stopped at the intersection of LA Hwy. 308 and Canal Blvd. when he saw a vehicle go through an active red light.

Officer then initiated a traffic stop where he then met with the driver of the vehicle, Gregory S. Holliday of 1194 Coteau Rd. in Houma, LA Age 25.  Officer again observed the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from Mr. Holliday.  Mr. Holliday also demonstrated certain physical characteristics consistent with someone driving under the influence.  At this time, the officer placed Mr. Holliday under arrest for Driving Under Suspension and Red Light Violation and he was brought to the Thibodaux Police Department.

Once at the Thibodaux Police Department, Mr. Holliday consented to a series of standardized field sobriety tests, which he did fail.  Mr. Holliday then consented to a chemical test that showed Mr. Holliday as having a blood alcohol content of .168g%

Mr. Holliday was then booked on the charges of Red Light Violation, Driving Under Suspension, and 2nd Offense DWI.  Total bond was set in the amount of $1200.00.  Not able to place bond, Mr. Holliday was brought to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.
