ThibodauxPolice Officers made an early morning drug arrest of seventeen year old JowonWilliams of 1515 South Barbier St. Thibodaux.
On May 10,2002 (at approximately 12:01 a.m.),Thibodaux Police Officers patrolling in the area of Caroline and Lawrence Avenueobserved Jowon Williams, who appeared to be a juvenile, walking in the area. When the officers made contact with Williams, he (Williams) told theofficers that he was a sixteen year old juvenile and on his way home. At that time, the officers placed Williams under arrest for a curfewviolation. While placing thehandcuffs on Williams, officers observed Williams drop a clear plastic bag tothe ground and step on it. One of the two officers retrieved the bag andexamined it. The bag contained approximately ten dollars worth of suspectedmarijuana. During a pat down of Williams, officers also located a cigarettelighter and $140.00 dollars cash.
Williams wasbrought to the Thibodaux Police Department to be booked on curfew and drugcharges. While at the station, officers learned through the in-house computerthat Williams was not a juvenile as he stated, but a seventeen-year-old adult. Williams later admitted that he gave the false information to theofficers to avoid having to post bond as an adult, as opposed to being releasedto a guardian as a juvenile. Williams was charged with one count of possessionof marijuana and one count of misrepresentation during booking. Williams was later transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Centerwith no bond set at press time.
