THIBODAUX MAN ARRESTED IN WEEKEND CUTTING
On Saturday, (April 8, 2002) at approximately 1:35pm,the Thibodaux Police Department responded to a call of a reported cutting thattook place in the 1200 block of General Nicholls Dr. When officers arrived, theylearned that Kevin Burrell, 38, of Thibodaux, had been cut across the chest andhand with a box cutter.
Burrell told officers that while sitting out in ayard in the 1200 block of General Nicholls with a group of people, Coleman cameover and began to harass several people at that location. According to Burrelland other witnesses, Coleman appeared to be intoxicated. Witnesses stated thatas Burrell tried to get Coleman to leave the area to avoid further harassment,Coleman turned around as if he was leaving, but then immediately turned backtoward Burrell, allegedly cutting him across the chest and on his thumb with abox cutter. Coleman fled the area immediately after the cutting, but wasarrested at his home within minute by Thibodaux Police officers.
Burrell was taken to the Thibodaux Regional MedicalCenter by Acadian Ambulance where he received treatment for the lacerations andlater released. Officers also observed a cut under Colemanís chin, but did notreceive information as to how Coleman was injured. Witnesses reported that Coleman was the only person with aweapon. No other injuries werereported in this incident. The cause of the disturbance is unknown.
Gerald Coleman, 47, of 1108 Henderson Street wasarrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Battery. Coleman was booked by the Thibodaux Police Deaprtment andlater transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center with a bond amountset at $20,000.00.
