CITY RESIDENTS MAY EXPERIENCE SHORT-DURATION WATER SERVICE DISRUPTIONS DURING ADVANCED METERING INSTALLATION
Thibodaux, LA - City officials want residents to be aware of possible interruptions to water service during the installation of advanced metering systems in the coming months.
The installation of these meter reader systems from Utility Metering Solutions, A Division of XtraLight (UMS), is expected to take 6 to 7 months to complete. During installation, contractors working on behalf of the City of Thibodaux will interrupt water services for 15-20 minutes. Before leaving individual sites, UMS installers will test the new water meter by running about 1 to 2 gallons of water from exterior hose or faucet. Door hangers will be left at the main entrance to the property informing the customer of the status of the visit.
This advanced metering technology enables the wireless transmission of water and gas meter readings directly to City of Thibodaux Department of Public Work staff. Furthermore, this innovative system collects multiple readings per day, thus allowing for better leak detection, billing efficiency, and improved customer service.
"Utility Metering Solutions is a leader in the deployment of utility infrastructure systems and resource conservation, and supports our commitment to maintaining a high quality of life for our citizens through cost-effective, innovative programs. The new system will also help the City of Thibodaux analyze and efficiently detect water leaks, minimize water loss and bill more efficiently for gas services," Public Works Director Archie Chaisson said. "Advanced metering also supports our commitment to preserving and protecting our environment by reducing carbon emissions as a result of taking meter readers off the road, enhancing our ability to quickly detect and stop water leaks, and providing customers with up-to-date water usage data so they can improve their efforts to conserve."
Contractors will be supervised by the City of Thibodaux's Public Works staff, carry UMS identification and wear yellow UMS T-shirts or vests. UMS installer vehicles will also be clearly marked with the "UMS" logo. All UMS installers have successfully completed a comprehensive criminal background check.
