Electrical and Irrigation System Improvements to Canal Blvd.

Irrigation and re-wiring are being laid out on Canal Boulevard from the south of Bayou Lafourche to its intersection with Jackson St. The irrigation lines will provide much needed water to the lawn, trees, and landscaped areas on the Boulevard. The irrigation project has been the initiative of Thibodaux Beautification Coalition’s Board, who obtained a grant from the Lorio Foundation in the amount of $10,000 (all being used for the irrigation project.)

The improvements to the existing electrical wiring are required because it has deteriorated and can no longer supply sufficient electrical current to power the streetlights on the Boulevard. The City has made numerous repairs and alternative measures but can no longer sustain reliable lighting on the Boulevard.

The City’s Department of Public Works’ employees are doing the construction on weekends during light traffic flow, in order to cause the least amount of inconvenience.

Upon the completion of this project, the Boulevard will have a new look as well as being easier to maintain.

The work in progress on Canal Boulevard is the result of a cooperative effort with the Department of Public Works to upgrade the wiring and the Thibodaux Beautification Coalition to provide water to the Boulevard.
