Thibodaux to Host Child Welfare Forum

 

On February 13, 2001, the City ofThibodaux and the Department of Social Services (DSS) will host a Child Welfare CommunityForum in the Plantation Room of the Thibodaux Civic Center.  The forum will begin at 5:30 PM.  ReneaAustin-Duffin, Secretary of the Department of Social Services, and Carmen Weisner, Asst.Secretary, Office of Community Services, will present the forum.   

The purpose of the forum is tobetter educate the community about Child Welfare Services provided by DSS.  Individuals interested in adoption and fosterparenting are welcome and encouraged to attend this very informative session.  Topics that will be presented includeinformation on child protection investigations, family services, and foster care andadoption services.  The agenda will include abrief presentation in illustrating typical situations faced by the employees of the Officeof Community Services (OCS) and the court’s perspective of Child Welfare Servicesmade by members of the local judicial system.  Theforum will conclude with a question/answer period for the audience.
