Mayor Receives Red Cross Good Neighbor Award

PRESS RELEASE
American Red Cross
February 22, 2002

American Red Cross Award On February 7, 2002, Mayor Charles Caillouet and the City of Thibodaux were presented with the Good Neighbor Award on behalf of the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana Chapter for their work during Tropical Storm Allison and support of a new Red Cross facility.

During Tropical Storm Allison Mayor Caillouet immediately turned to the Red Cross offering any assistance necessary to meet the emergency needs of the community. Caillouet served as a chief spokesperson for the emergency response, issuing public calls for assistance and soliciting over $100,000 in contributions. The money was used to help the Red Cross provide relief for the 1,200 homes affected in the Thibodaux area. His dedication to the city and belief in the Red Cross organization has forged a strong, valuable partnership.

The City of Thibodaux has provided property and building space free of charge to the American Red Cross. The new facility will house the Thibodaux Branch and give volunteers and staff more classrooms and office space. The City trains all of its lifeguards through the Red Cross. All police personnel are also trained in First AID, CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator procedures through American Red Cross health and safety training.

The City of Thibodaux and its Mayor help the Red Cross carry out its mission to prepare, prevent and respond to emergencies. The Red Cross is proud to call them Good Neighbors.

Compliments of the American Red Cross
